| A monumental work about German castles; a complete set of nine volumes. 251 chapters mostly deals with castles in what is present-day Germany but Austrian, Bohemian and Silesian castles are also included. Every volume contains an engraving in the frontispiece and another smaller engraving on the title page. There are additional engravings in volumes 1 and 2 (one of the castle of Trosky in Bohemia, the other of Scharfenberg an der Elbe). Volumes 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are from the first edition; vols. 1, 3 and 4 are from the second, revised one; vol. 2 is from the third, revised edition. The list of engravings in frontispieces and on title pages is as follows: Giebichenstein, Kunitzburg; Falkenstein am Harz, Hannstein; Wildenfels, Arnstein; Rodenstein im Odenwalde, Falkenstein am Taunus; Stecklenberg und Lauenburg, Hohenurach; Frankenstein (near Darmstadt), Kruckenberg (Krukenburg); Dürnstein an der Donau, Askanienburg (Alte Burg / Burg Askania near Aschersleben); Kinsberg (Zamek Grodno near Schweidnitz/Swidnica), Strahlenburg; Weidelberg (Weidelsberg / Weidelsburg near Wolfhagen), Kogelberg (Kugelsburg near Volkmarsen).
